Things people ask.

Is the free tier getting worse? +

The core never changes: unlimited conversations, unlimited history, the web chat inbox, your first links. Three capabilities move up over time: external XMPP clients, long file keeping, and verified sender identities. If none of them matter to you, nothing changes.

What happens to old files on Free? +

Files are kept for up to 90 days. The message stays forever, with the file's place marked in it; the file itself leaves storage when it expires. The expiry date is shown on the file, so it never surprises you. On Pro, files stay until you delete them.

Why is connecting my own XMPP client a Pro feature? +

Dedicated clients need real accounts on our server: credentials we mint, rotate, and support. That's infrastructure, and it's what Pro pays for. The Free web chat speaks the same open protocol underneath, so you're never locked into our app.

What happens to custom CSS? +

It moves to Pro, along with the preset gallery. It's the deepest theming tool in the product. Accent-color theming stays free on every plan, and every link keeps the accent it already has.

What counts as an active link? +

A link that's live: someone could click it and reach you right now. Revoke a link and the slot frees up. Your existing conversations never count against the limit.

What happens if I downgrade? +

Pro features pause. Links past the free limit stay readable but ask you to revoke one before new chats can start. Vanity slugs release. Collaborators lose access, and external clients stop getting credentials. Files return to the free rules: the up-to-90-day clock resumes, and we'll let you know as you approach the 100 MB guideline (nothing is deleted for being over). Your conversations and message history stay exactly where they were.
