Why it's built

No-name by default is right. Total no-name forever is a tax.

"No account needed" is bespoke's best promise, and it belongs to the person clicking the link. Nothing on this page changes it.

But on your side of the glass, a stream of nicknames has a cost. When you run client work, a community, or a support queue on chat, "is this the person from Tuesday?" is a real question you pay for with attention, every single time. Recognizing a regular shouldn't require memory games.

The fix can't be "everyone makes an account", because that taxes the many for the needs of the few. So verification runs the other way: people who already have a bespoke account can prove who they are to you, on your links, with one setting on your part and no effort on theirs. Nicknames stay first-class. Proof is optional, and opt-in by the person sending.

When someone who has an account opens your link, their side proves their identity against your secret. Their verified name arrives with the message. Nothing to type, nothing to configure on their end.

Everyone else stays exactly as welcome

No account, no verification, no change: they pick a nickname and start talking, same as always. The default experience is untouched.

Does this break "no account needed"?+

No. The person clicking your link never needs an account, and that experience is unchanged. Verification is a bonus layer for people who happen to have one and want to be known to you.

Can someone fake a verified name?+

No. A verified name isn't text in a field; it's signed against the bespoke account behind it. Only the account's owner can present it, and it can't be typed by anyone else.

Do other people chatting with me see verified names?+

Never. Each link opens into its own isolated room, and people from one link never see people from another. Verified names are for you and your inbox, nobody else.

What happens when I rotate my secret?+

The previous secret keeps working for 24 hours, so people mid-conversation don't drop to nicknames without warning. After the grace window, only the new secret verifies.
