The indicator works on every surface, respects a pause (typing that stops makes the dots fade after a moment), and never claims someone is typing when they are not: it is driven by the same presence signals the chat already carried.
One companion touch: hover any message's timestamp and the exact date and time appears, so "14:02" finally tells you which day it belonged to.
