History that came back to desktop chat apps

  • fixed Conversations opened in a desktop chat app (like Gajim) were showing up empty: everything sent before you joined was silently thrown away by the app, because our server labeled each replayed message's time in a place apps don't look. The label now sits where every app expects it, so the full history appears the moment you join, including chats that started while you were away.

bespoke speaks standard XMPP, so you can read and answer your chats from a desktop client like Gajim (or Dino, Conversations on Android, Siskin on iOS). One thing those apps were getting wrong: a conversation opened there showed up empty, as if it had just started, even when it had history.

The messages were never missing. The server keeps everything and replays it when you join, but each replayed message carries the time it was originally sent, and the server was labeling that time in a place desktop apps don't look. The apps silently threw the "future-dated" messages away rather than argue with them.

The label now sits where every client expects it. The full history appears the moment you join, including chats that started while you were away.
