Group chats open again from the Chats list

  • fixed In Chats, clicking a group conversation under the Conferences tab didn't open it: on a fresh account the first group chat and the first one-to-one chat both get the number 1, and the app always resolved a number to the one-to-one chat, so the group chat you clicked either never appeared or a different chat opened in its place, complete with that chat's message history. Group chats and one-to-one chats now carry their own marker in the page address, and the read-state, message history, and live-update channel all follow the right conversation.

The Chats page keeps two kinds of conversation: one-to-one chats that arrive through your links, and group chats from your conference links. Under the hood they are stored in two separate lists, and each list numbers its conversations from 1.

That numbering was the problem. When you clicked a group chat, the page only knew its number, and on looking the number up it always tried the one-to-one list first. On a fresh account your first group chat and your first one-to-one chat are both number 1, so clicking the group chat resolved to the one-to-one chat with the same number: the group chat wouldn't open, or worse, a different chat opened in its place and everything you did there (renaming yourself, marking it read) quietly landed on the wrong conversation.

Each kind now carries its own marker in the page address, so a click always resolves to the list it came from. The same marker travels on the message-history request, the read-state call, and the background channel that carries live updates, so all of them follow the right conversation. Nothing changes about how chats look or behave; the fix is entirely about picking the right one.
